The goals of the NIHHS are to:

1. Conduct / foster research and applications to advance healthy human spaces.
   
   
2. Promote and improve health and healthy spaces especially in environmental justice communities.
   
   
3. Develop a national database of healthy human spaces, best practices and resources.
   
   
4. Expand the knowledge base in environmental social, economic and health sciences about how the environment affects human spaces.
   
   
5. Empower the nation's leaders and corporations, public / private entities, and community leaders through training to advance and improve environments where people live, work, learn, recreate and worship. especially vulnerable populations, distressed communities, and people of color.
